Our History

The Department of Mathematics at Govt. Hazi Muhammad Mohsin College has a rich heritage dating back to 1874. It started as one of the pioneer departments when the institution was known as Chittagong Madrasah.

Over the decades, it has evolved through various phases – from Chittagong Government College's branch to an independent department of Mohsin College in 1979. It has consistently produced scholars who have led national and international institutions.

The Legacy of Philanthropy

Haji Muhammad Mohsin was a prominent Bengali celestial philanthropist and a great patron of education. Born in Hugli, he left an indelible mark on history by dedicating his immense wealth to the service of humanity.

In 1806, he established the Mohsin Fund, which laid the foundation for numerous educational institutions throughout Bengal, including the prestigious Govt. Hazi Muhammad Mohsin College. His vision was to create a society enlightened by knowledge and moral values.

Today, we stand proud as a testament to his foresight—upholding a tradition of academic excellence and social responsibility that has spanned over a century.
